Daltonganj, Nov 28: The MMCH Daltonganj Medical Superintendent Dr Dharmendra Kumar has set his priority which may widen the eyes of many.
He is all out to make post-mortem house a normal workable house and not where the dead is just left out till the autopsy is done.
Dr Dharmendra Kumar said, “The post mortem house is getting cleaned. Its floor is disinfected. It is being cleared of the shrubs.”
A noted surgeon Sushil Pandey accompanying the Medical Superintendent at his maiden press briefing today said, “The dead deserve dignity. Our superintendent is pulling out all stops to make the scenario of the post-mortem a bearable inevitability.”
However, Dharmendra Kumar agreed the ‘Dome’ there extracts money from the bereaved family like anything. The Dome is not under the direct control of the superintendent.
Morgue, unclaimed bodies and emergency service
There is no morgue here. Dr R K Ranjan told media persons that disposal of unclaimed body is a tedious task here as police fail to perform in time. The unclaimed body continues to rot for days.
Dr Dharmendra Kumar said he would try to have one morgue here at the earliest.
Dr Dharmendra Kumar said, “Emergency service is always highly prioritised. Here too I and my team do. But it doesn’t mean the post-mortem house be neglected in terms of dignified services to the dead.”
On the issue of bodies being taken away by the families from the MMCH Daltonganj without having post-mortem where it is essential and in the larger interest of the bereaved family Medical Superintendent said, “The families should avoid doing it in their own interest. Here to cast any aspersion on the doctor and the staff is not appropriate.”

Addressing referral issues
Asked that MMCH has earned a bad name for referring even minor cases to the higher centres in Ranchi to which Dr Dharmendra Kumar said, “We are taking care of our accident patients as much as possible. Cases are referred to. There is no denying the fact.”
Here a popular physician Dr R K Ranjan also accompanying Dr Dharmendra Kumar at his press briefing said, “Cases are referred to under pressure from the attendants of the patients. They bluntly ask the doctor to guarantee them that their patients will come round. Again the attendants ask the doctor if he finds himself capable of curing the patient. Such a situation is created where the doctor has no option but to refer the patient to higher centres in Ranchi.”
On patient-doctor relations, Dr Dharmendra Kumar said, “It’s improving. There is no major incident of conflict in the past two months or so.”
Surgeon Sushil Pandey too nodded in affirmation to what Dr Dharmendra Kumar told the press today.
Enhancing patient registration and Ayushman enrollment
“The OPD time has been extended by one hour now. It’s 9 am to 2 pm. It’s helping patients coming over here from far-flung areas,” added the Medical Superintendent.
Patients’ registration has been made easier by scanning and sharing where there is a QR code.
Dr Dharmendra Kumar said we launched it just two months ago and we could get 200 patients registered like this. There is every need to improve its tally. Here comes 900 patients on an average a day. The scan and share technique will save time for the patients.
About Ayushman enrolment Dr Dharmendra Kumar said, “It’s 300 per month. It ought to be 500 per month. We are striving hard to reach it. Earlier it was 60 to 90 registrations per month only.”
Four Ayushman Mitrs would soon be selected here which will take the total to six in the MMCH Daltonganj, added the Medical Superintendent.

Free CT scan to BPL patients shut
A 12-bed PICU will be started in the MMCH Daltonganj said HoD Pediatrics Dr Binita Nancy Khalkho. Dr Binita too was present at the press briefing of the Medical Superintendent.
“Manipal Health Map and Medall are catering pathology and radiology services on payment. They have stopped free services to BPL patients. The matter has been brought to the notice of the government” stated the Medical Superintendent.
“X-ray and ultrasonography we are doing. It’s a CT scan that we don’t have. Manipal Health Map has shut the CT scan facility free to the BPL,” reminded Dr Dharmendra Kumar who carried his first press briefing with clinical precision and confidence.
All 22 HoDs will be getting 5 lakh each of fund from the Principal of MMCH Daltonganj which is to be spent on their respective departments as per their own discretion informed Dr Dharmendra Kumar.
