Dhanbad, December 3: The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) of Dhanbad successfully rescued four minors from Giridih at Parasnath railway station, foiling a human trafficking attempt.

The traffickers were attempting to transport the minors to Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) squad at Gomoh, stationed at Parasnath railway station, intercepted the group before they could board the train.

Following an interrogation, RPF officer Simpi Singh informed the CWC in Dhanbad and escorted the minors to the district headquarters for further assistance.

Traffickers extorted Rs 8000 from each minor

CWC Chairman Uttam Mukherjee confirmed that the rescued minors were aged between 15 and 16. During counselling, the minors revealed that they were from a minority community and had been promised jobs in a tiles factory in Cuttack with a monthly wage of ₹10,000. However, the traffickers had extorted ₹8,000 from each minor as an advance payment for securing the job.

After their rescue, the minors were handed over to the CWC by the RPF. Meanwhile, local police officials and community representatives from Giridih exerted pressure on the CWC to release the minors, citing their role as the primary breadwinners for their families.

Despite these demands, the CWC, prioritizing the welfare and safety of the children, sent them to the Child Home in Bokaro following medical examinations. Chairman Mukherjee, along with members Prem Kumar, Mamta Arora, and others, played a key role in the rehabilitation process.
