Jharkhand News: Tata Steel Foundation observes International Day of PwDs

Dhanbad, Dec 3: The Tata Steel Foundation (TSF) Jharia Division celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) with a series of events at the SPARSH Centre in Jamadoba and the Malkera Community Centre. The program featured the distribution of assistive devices and a cultural program to honour the day

An official from TSF stated that the initiative aimed to raise awareness about Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and promote equitable opportunities and fair treatment for all.

Distribution of assistive devices

The morning session at SPARSH Centre, Jamadoba, began with Chief Guest Dr. Manju Das, District Leprosy Officer, distributing assistive devices. The celebrations continued in the afternoon with a cultural program at Malkera Community Centre.

As part of the initiative, 31 assistive devices were distributed to enhance the daily lives of PwDs. “The theme of this year is ‘Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.’ Keeping up with this theme, Dr. Manju Das recognized the efforts and resilience of Persons with Disabilities in raising awareness and distributed assistive devices to them,” the official said.

In addition, 15 PwDs received Outdoor Leadership Certificates for their exceptional contributions.

Special guests and key attendees

The event was graced by several notable guests, including Dr. Aloke, Chief Medical Officer of Tata Main Hospital, Jamadoba; Shweta Mishra, Head of Administration for Jharia Division, Tata Steel; and Santosh Kumar Mahato, Regional Secretary of Rashtriya Colliery Mazdoor Union (RCMU). Others present included Piyush Kumar, Senior Area Manager HRBP, Sijua Group; Sujit Kumar Jha, Senior Area Manager Security, Jharia Division; and Rajesh Kumar, Unit Lead TSF Jamadoba.

Other attendees included Ravi Jha, Senior Manager Security; Vikas Kataria, Manager Security for Sijua Group; Bandi Gayatri, Manager Mining at Bhelatand Colliery; Bipin Choudhary, Manager Community Development; Dr. B. Patra, Medical Officer; Dr. Debbrata Das, Manager Public Health; and several members of the Coordination Committee, including S.M. Trigunite and Girish Mahato. Local representatives, including Mukhiya Vinod Rajak of Malkera South Panchayat, along with Laxmi Kumari, Ajay Paswan, and Raj Kumar from the Sabal team, also attended.

The event emphasized the importance of inclusivity and celebrated the resilience and leadership of PwDs, in line with this year’s theme.
