Singh succeeded Hari Babu Kambhampati, who has been appointed as the Governor of Odisha. His appointment as Mizoram’s Governor was officially made by President Droupadi Murmu on December 24.

A retired general who entered politics, Singh joined the BJP in 2014 and won the Ghaziabad Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh during the general election that year, securing re-election in 2019.

In Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first term, he held roles such as Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs, MoS (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, and MoS for Statistics and Programme Implementation. During Modi’s second term, Singh served as MoS for Road Transport and Highways and Civil Aviation.
