Jamshedpur, Jan 18: In a breakthrough against the smuggling of narcotic substances, the East Singhbhum district police arrested the conductor of an interstate bus for carrying marijuana from Odisha to Bengal.
While making the arrest, the police seized eight kgs of marijuana from the possession of the conductor identified as Jayant Das.
Revealing about the breakthrough, SP (Rural) Rishabh Garg said that they had information that some people are indulged in smuggling narcotic substances from Odisha to Jharkhand and Bengal.

“Keeping the input in view, we activated our intelligence network in the service and eventually got to know that a bus from Odisha heading for Bengal was loaded with marijuana. On getting the information we set up an anti-crime check post in Barsole bordering Odisha-Bengal border. But getting to know about the checking, the bus conductor tried to evade the checking by taking the vehicle through a mud road. The police team, however, acted smartly and intercepted the bus even on that mud road. On checking the bus, the police recovered eight packets, apparently stuffed with marijuana,” said Garg while talking to the newsmen on Saturday afternoon.
The SP (Rural) said during the investigation, it was learned that it was the bus conductor who was behind the illegal act.
The senior police officer said the accused identified as Jayant Das who is a resident of Bengal was immediately taken into custody as it was later substantiated that the recovered material was marijuana only.
