Jharkhand News: BIT Sindri faculty and students celebrate Sarhul

Dhanbad, April 1: The faculty, students, and staff of BIT Sindri came together to celebrate the Sarhul festival with great enthusiasm on campus, showcasing the rich tribal culture and traditions.

Organized by the BIT Sindri Cultural Society, the event commenced with prayers and a sermon at the ritual worship site, followed by a vibrant display of tribal traditions.

The performances were so captivating that even senior faculty members couldn’t resist joining in, enthusiastically beating the Madar and dancing alongside the participants.

Students, staff, and local residents actively participated, presenting mesmerizing dance performances to the rhythmic beats of Madar and traditional Nagpuri songs. The Pahno (priest) conducted the customary Sarhul worship, marking the deep-rooted spiritual significance of the festival.

Messages on Nature and Cultural Heritage

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ajay Oraon emphasized that Sarhul carries a powerful message about staying connected to nature and preserving the environment. “Tribal culture symbolizes a profound love for nature and teaches us the importance of environmental conservation,” he said.

Dr. Jitu Kujur highlighted the historical and cultural significance of Sarhul, explaining the deep-rooted traditions behind the celebration. Meanwhile, Dr. Umesh Prasad extended his greetings to the people of Jharkhand, congratulating them on the festival.

Several senior faculty members actively took part in the celebrations, including Dr. Ajay Oraon (BIT Sindri Cultural Society in-charge), Dr. Upendra Prasad, Dr. D.K. Tati, Dr. Rajiv Verma, Dr. Jitu Kujur, Dr. Nishikant Kisku, Dr. Amar Prakash Sinha, Dr. Amar Kumar, Dr. J.N. Mahto, Dr. Sagram Hembram, and Dr. Boipai.

The event not only reinforced the cultural essence of Sarhul but also strengthened the bond among faculty, students, and the local community through shared festivities.
