New Delhi, April 5: Delhi has now officially come under the ambit of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), with the BJP-led government signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre on Saturday.

The agreement was formalized between the Delhi government and the National Health Authority in the presence of Union Health Minister J P Nadda, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and other dignitaries.

With this move, Delhi becomes the 35th state or Union Territory to adopt the scheme, leaving West Bengal as the only state yet to implement it.

Eligible families in Delhi will now benefit from free healthcare coverage of up to ₹10 lakh annually — split equally between the Centre and the Delhi government. T

The Ayushman Bharat scheme covers 1,961 treatments across 27 specialities, including surgeries, ICU care, medicines, diagnostic services, and hospitalisation.

The BJP, after ending a 26-year gap to return to power in Delhi, had quickly cleared the decision to implement the scheme during the first cabinet meeting held on February 20, shortly after CM Rekha Gupta and her ministers were sworn in.

A massive campaign to register beneficiaries under the health scheme will soon follow.
