Robert Vadra appears for third day of ED questioning

THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

New Delhi, April 17: Businessman Robert Vadra, husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi and brother-in-law of Rahul Gandhi, appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for the third consecutive day on Thursday in connection with a money laundering investigation related to a 2008 land deal in Haryana’s Shikohpur.

Slamming the summons, Vadra denounced the ED’s action as a politically motivated move aimed at silencing opposition voices.

Upon arriving at the ED office, accompanied by his wife Priyanka Gandhi, Vadra told reporters that the questions being asked were a repeat of what he had already answered in 2019. “There’s nothing new here. This is just how the government campaigns — by misusing institutions,” he said.

The case involves Vadra’s firm, Skylight Hospitality Pvt Ltd, which had purchased 3.5 acres of land from Onkareshwar Properties for ₹7.5 crore. It is alleged that the land’s mutation was completed within hours.

Soon after the purchase, Haryana’s town planning department issued a letter of intent to develop a commercial colony on 2.71 acres of the land. Skylight later entered into an agreement with real estate giant DLF to sell the plot for ₹58 crore. The sale deed was subsequently registered in DLF’s name. The Haryana Police had initially registered a case in the matter in 2018.

Vadra accused the BJP-led government of weaponizing investigative agencies against political rivals, particularly those seen as potential chief ministerial candidates or gaining political traction.

“Agencies are being misused to suppress parties that are performing well. Why hasn’t any BJP leader faced similar scrutiny?” he questioned, adding that such selective action undermines public trust in the system.

Vadra alleged that the pressure on him increased after he began speaking out against atrocities on minorities. He insisted that attempts to target him would only make him stronger, saying, “If I’m harassed or put under pressure, I’ll come out even more resilient.”
