Jamshedpur, April 18: A 22-member team from Vidyasagar University, Midnapore, West Bengal, led by Professor Deepak Kumar Midya, Head of the Department of Anthropology, successfully conducted a five-day research and outreach program in Ghatshila from April 12 to 16.

The initiative focused on vital social and health issues, aligning with the broader aim of fostering scientific thinking and community engagement.

As part of the “Research to People” initiative, the team carried out fieldwork in Dhatkidih village and Upkramit Madhya Vidyalaya Dhatkidih, focusing on three major areas: Nutritional status of school-going children, Menstrual hygiene management among adolescent girls and Mental health conditions of the elderly.

The research activities, spearheaded by senior research scholar Mousami Ganguly along with university students, emphasized community-oriented scientific inquiry. The team appreciated the ongoing social campaigns in the village and school, particularly initiatives like the “Pad Bank,” “Soap Bank,” and various environmental protection efforts, all of which are showing promising outcomes.

The headmaster of the school, Sajid Ahmed, along with supportive teachers and active involvement from social organizations, received praise from the visiting team for driving impactful community engagement.

Inspired by these efforts, the researchers donated sanitary pads, soap, and teaching aids to the school’s Bal Sansad (Children’s Parliament), and also planted a mango tree within the school premises as a symbol of sustainable development.
