PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, April 30: The Ranchi Meteorological Centre has issued a weather alert for the state, forecasting thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning and gusty winds over the coming days.

On April 30, isolated areas across the state are likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds reaching speed of 40–50 Kmph.

From May 1 to May 3, similar conditions are expected to persist, although with slightly lower wind speeds of 30–40 Kmph. However, the north-western parts of the state are likely to remain unaffected during this period.

This unstable weather is attributed to a combination of meteorological phenomena:

* A persistent trough in the westerlies, extending from north of latitude 15°N along longitude 84°E, is present at altitudes between 5.8 km and 9.6 Km above mean sea level.

* An upper air cyclonic circulation previously over northeast Bangladesh now lies over north Bangladesh, extending up to 1.5 Km above mean sea level.

* Additionally, a north-south trough runs from the cyclonic circulation over northwest Madhya Pradesh to south Tamil Nadu. This trough passes through Vidarbha, Marathwada, Interior Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu at an altitude of 0.9 Km above mean sea level.

People are advised to remain cautious, especially during outdoor activities, and to stay updated with the latest weather advisories.
