TMC MP Mahua Moitra expelled from Lok Sabha in cash-for-query case

New Delhi, Dec 8: After discussing the Ethics Committee’s report in the “cash for query” case that was presented in the Lok Sabha today, Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha on Friday.

The motion put forth by the Lok Sabha’s Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, was approved by voice vote.

Mahua Moitra, the Trinamool leader, was prohibited from speaking during the House discussion. Nonetheless, she chose to articulate her statement outside the Lok Sabha.

She asserted that the Ethics committee disregarded all rules.

Following the Lok Sabha’s adoption of the motion to remove the TMC MP, the opposition staged a walkout.

After that, the House was adjourned until December 11.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla stated, “This House accepts the conclusions of the Committee that MP Mahua Moitra’s conduct was immoral and indecent as an MP. So, it is not appropriate for her to continue as an MP”.

Ethics Committee calls for probe by central govt

The Ethics Committee’s investigation into the ‘Unethical Conduct’ of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP suggested that Moitra “may be expelled” from the Lok Sabha. It also advocated for a comprehensive, legal, and institutional investigation by the central government within a specified timeframe.

“The serious misdemeanours on the part of Mahua Moitra calls for severe punishment. The Committee, therefore, recommend that Mahua Moitra, MP may be expelled from the Membership of the Seventeenth Lok Sabha,” the report read.
