New Delhi, May 12: Air Marshal AK Bharti, in a press briefing on Monday, said that the Indian Armed Forces’ objective during Operation Sindoor was to dismantle terrorist infrastructure, not engage with the Pakistani military. However, he clarified that any losses suffered by Pakistan’s armed forces were a result of their own intervention.

A video presented at the briefing showed significant damage, including a large crater on the runway at Rahim Yar Khan airbase in Pakistan.

Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, successfully targeted nine terrorist sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK).

Conducted with precision, the strikes were carefully executed to avoid civilian and critical military infrastructure.

India’s layered air defence (AD) system played a vital role in intercepting waves of Pakistani drones and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The integrated response involved the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, supported by indigenously developed soft and hard-kill technologies and coordinated through the Indian Air Force’s Integrated Air Command and Control System (IACCS).

Air Marshal Bharti noted that Indian forces also intercepted a Chinese-origin PL-15 missile, recovering its debris, and successfully brought down other long-range rockets, loitering munitions, and aerial systems deployed by Pakistan. He attributed this operational success to a decade of consistent defence funding from the Government of India.

“All our military bases are on alert. Our systems are fully operational and prepared for any future missions,” Bharti affirmed, underlining India’s readiness to act decisively if the situation demands.

He also clarified that the Indian Armed Forces did not target the Kirana Hills region in Pakistan, dismissing speculation that India had attacked Islamabad’s nuclear storage facility.
