New Delhi, May 15: The Supreme Court has pulled up Madhya Pradesh minister Kunwar Vijay Shah for making a controversial remark about Colonel Sofia Qureshi. The court refused to interfere, for now, in the FIR registered against the BJP minister.

During the hearing, Chief Justice B.R. Gavai expressed strong disapproval, stating, “A person holding constitutional office is expected to act responsibly. What kind of statements is he making? Is it appropriate for a minister to make such statements?”

The minister had approached the Supreme Court challenging the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s May 14 order directing the registration of an FIR against him. He had requested that no action be taken against him until the case was fully heard.

However, the Supreme Court advised him to appeal directly before the High Court, noting that the matter is already under hearing there. The court added that the next hearing would take place tomorrow.

The controversy stems from a statement made by Vijay Shah during a public rally, where he said, “The terrorists who wiped off the sindoor of our daughters, we sent a ‘sister’ of their own to take revenge.”

His comment was seen as a reference to Colonel Sofia Qureshi, who played a key role in ‘Operation Sindoor.’ The remark sparked widespread criticism and backlash on social media.

Following the outrage, Vijay Shah issued a video apology, stating that he had no intention to insult anyone. He added that if his words had hurt anyone’s sentiments, he sincerely apologized.
