Jamshedpur, May 19: A fresh spell of pre-monsoon activity is expected to impact large parts of the state over the next two days, as the Ranchi Meteorological Centre has issued a weather advisory warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds.

On May 19, thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds with speeds reaching 50–60 kmph are likely at isolated locations across the state, except the southern regions. The southern parts, however, are not entirely spared, with gusty winds up to 40–50 kmph expected at isolated places.

On May 20, the entire state is likely to witness similar weather patterns, with gusty winds in the range of 40–50 kmph forecasted during thunderstorms and lightning occurrences.

This shift in weather is attributed to a low-level trough extending from the central parts of Punjab to northern Bangladesh.

The system runs across a cyclonic circulation over central Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and north Gangetic West Bengal, hovering at approximately 0.9 Km above mean sea level. This trough is injecting moisture-laden winds and enhancing convective activity over the region.

Weathermen advised residents to take necessary precautions, particularly in vulnerable areas where lightning and gusty winds can pose risks to life and property. Farmers, construction workers, and those commuting through open areas are urged to stay updated through local alerts and avoid exposure during stormy conditions.

Disaster management teams are on alert, and the state electricity department has been instructed to monitor potential outages.

Travellers and airlines are also advised to check for real-time updates due to the possibility of sudden weather changes.
