Jamshedpur, May 21: In a late-night operation, Jugsalai police exposed a major illegal arms racket operating between Bihar and Jharkhand.
One accused, Mohammad Khalik (35), a resident of Darbhanga, Bihar, was arrested, while two of his accomplices, Mohammad Samar and Mohammad Afroz, managed to escape and are currently being hunted by the police.
The arrest led to the recovery of a country-made pistol, magazine, bullet parts, a broken cartridge extractor, tools like hammers, a wrench, a file, and even a toothbrush used for weapon maintenance.

The gang was reportedly bringing illegal firearms from Munger and distributing them across Jamshedpur and nearby areas. They were also involved in repairing and modifying weapons.
The operation was conducted around 11 pm on May 20, after a special team was formed on the orders of senior officials. Khalik was apprehended in a suspicious condition carrying a yellow bag. During questioning, he confessed to being part of a three-member gang involved in arms trafficking and repair.
Khalik has been booked under the Arms Act and was sent to judicial custody on Wednesday. Police say severe punishment could follow if he is found guilty.

Meanwhile, authorities have urged the public to voluntarily surrender any illegal firearms at the nearest police station.
They warned that strict legal action would be taken against those found possessing unlicensed weapons.
