IIT ISM Dhanbad Director elected Fellow of Asia-Pacific AI Association

Dhanbad, May 22: IIT (ISM) Dhanbad Director Prof. Sukumar Mishra has been elected as a Fellow of the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association (AAIA), a global non-profit organization dedicated to advancing AI innovation by bringing together leading scientists, academicians, and entrepreneurs.

This marks Prof. Mishra’s second major recognition in 2025. Earlier this year, he was elevated to the prestigious rank of Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), effective from January 1, 2025.

Recognised for Contributions to Electrical Engineering

In addition to his fellowships, Prof. Mishra was honoured in November 2024 with the Hingorani Award 2024 by the Bangalore Chapter of IEEE for his outstanding contributions to electrical engineering.

Prof. Mishra assumed the role of Director at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad on May 15, 2024. His appointment brought a wealth of academic, research, and leadership experience to the institution.

Strong Academic Background and Expertise in Power Systems

An alumnus of NIT Rourkela, Prof. Mishra earned his M.Tech and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 1992 and 2000, respectively. He began his academic journey as a lecturer at Sambalpur University, Odisha, where he served for nine years.

He is widely regarded as an expert in power systems, power quality studies, renewable energy, and smart grid technologies.

Multiple National Awards

Prof. Mishra’s career is marked by numerous prestigious accolades, including the INSA Medal for Young Scientists (2002), INAE Young Engineer Award (2002), Samanta Chandra Shekhar Award (2016), NASI-Reliance Platinum Jubilee Award (2019), and INAE Outstanding Teachers Award (2021), among others.

His election as an AAIA Fellow not only adds to his growing list of achievements but also strengthens IIT (ISM) Dhanbad’s global standing in academic and research excellence.
