BIT Sindri marks World Environment Day with plastic-free campus drive, plantation

Dhanbad, June 5: On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Eco Club of BIT Sindri engineering students, in collaboration with the IEEE Student Branch, launched a special campaign aimed at creating a plastic pollution-free campus alongside a large-scale tree plantation drive.

Dr. Pankaj Rai, Director of BIT Sindri and chief guest of the event, emphasized the collective responsibility of conserving natural resources. He highlighted the importance of raising awareness across all sections of society to effectively combat plastic pollution.

Prof. Prakash Kumar, President of IIC 7.0, noted that such initiatives help instill a strong sense of environmental responsibility among students, which is vital for sustainable development.

Prof. P.K. Singh, Head of the Mining Department, urged students to adopt environmentally friendly habits and incorporate tree plantation into their daily lives.

Dr. Brahmdev Yadav, professor in-charge of the Eco Club, and Dr. Abul Kalam, Head of the Electrical Engineering Department, shared that the Eco Club and IEEE regularly organize large-scale plantation drives to promote environmental conservation and improve air quality.

The joint effort of the Eco Club and IEEE Student Branch received widespread appreciation from both students and faculty members, culminating in a collective pledge to remain dedicated to protecting the environment.

The event was also attended by Prof. R.K. Verma, General Warden of BIT Sindri, and Prof. Prafull Kumar Sharma, Head of the Civil Engineering Department.

Active participation in the plantation drive was shown by Dr. Rahul Kumar (Coordinator, IIC 7.0), Prof. P.K. Singh (Head, Mining Department), Prof. Manoj Kumar (Mechanical Engineering Department), Dr. Nishikant Kishku (Civil Engineering Department), S.C. Dutta (Head, Information Technology Department), Prof. B.N. Roy (Dean, Student Welfare), Prof. Amar Prakash (Head, Electronics Department), and Dr. Anil Rajak (Head, Metallurgical Engineering Department), all of whom contributed significantly to the success of the event.
