Daltonganj, July 8: “Improve ‘WASH’ in the government schools to compete for the Chief Minister Swachha Vidyalaya Puruskar,” said Palamu DDC M Jawed Husaain.

WASH is in collaboration with UNICEF to instil a sense of value of safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene among the growing school children.

WASH is an acronym for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. It has to be of a quality on the campus of each of the government schools.

DDC M Jawed Husaain, who presided over the steering and monitoring committee meeting of the government primary, upper primary, and secondary education on Monday, asked the concerned to be up and doing for the prestigious award that comes with WASH, if the government schools or government-aided schools qualify for it.

Rural Schools Lack Toilets

The majority of the rural-based government schools lack a proper toilet, as in 90 per cent of toilets, running water is a luxury.

Similarly, hand wash comes second to thali washing at the time of the midday meals.

Rajwadeeh School Sets an Example

A government middle school at Rajwadeeh is a showcase of everything that is expected in a government school. Here syllabus coverage is outstanding. The academic rapport of the students with the teachers is like a family bond.

The head master of the school, Parshuram Tiwary, a highly well-read scholar, and his team of teachers show keen interest in the overall cleanliness on the school campus. Greenery and cleanliness go well in this school.

There are 2,564 government schools, including plus 2 and residential schools in Palamu.

WASH is a Star ranking exercise. A 5-star government school is countable in Palamu, as mediocre ones abound in large numbers.
