Dhanbad, July 8: The East Central Railway Karmchari Union (ECRKU) has announced its decision to extend moral support to the nationwide strike called by 10 central trade unions (coal miners’ unions) on Wednesday, July 9.
ECRKU additional general secretary, Md Ziyauddin, stated that the strike has been called in protest against the central government’s alleged anti-labour policies and increasing benefits being extended to corporate sectors. In solidarity, ECRKU members will observe symbolic protests across workplaces.

“As part of our moral support, railway employees will organize gate meetings at their workplaces, wear black badges, and raise awareness among people about the reasons behind the strike,” Zyauddin said.

He added that the All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF) has directed all zonal unions across the country to support the strike morally.
AIRF zonal secretary O.P. Sharma noted that ECRKU is affiliated with the Hind Mazdoor Sabha (HMS), one of the trade unions participating in the strike under the joint front.

“The key demands include scrapping of the Four Labour Codes, implementation of the Old Pension Scheme, and halting the privatization of government departments, among others,” Sharma explained.
