Daltonganj, July 12: A giant forest scorpion (Gigantometrus Swammerdami) was rescued at village Lalmatiya under the Bareysarn range of the south division of the Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR).

The giant forest scorpion was discovered in a shop of one Ishtiyaq Ansari, who alerted the Bareysarn range office about its presence.

Forester in charge Paramjit Tiwary said, “We immediately asked the household not to harm or kill the giant scorpion. We assured its safe rescue, and that we did.”

The giant forest scorpion was later released in the jungle of the Dwarseni Ghatee.

The forest scorpion gets active at night. It is venomous but not any highly venomous. Its sting causes swelling and pain in the affected area.

Where there is any leaf litter, a scorpion may not be any far behind.
