IIT ISM Dhanbad launches boot camp for tribal students

Dhanbad, July 18: IIT ISM Dhanbad has launched a three-day Boot Camp on Information Technology and Computer Training for 30 high-achieving tribal students from Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) across seven districts of Jharkhand—Salagadih (Ranchi), Kathijoria (Dumka), Bhognadih (Sahibganj), Tasaria (Godda), Basia (Gumla), Kujra (Lohardaga), and Torsinduri (West Singhbhum).

The camp, hosted under the aegis of the Centre of Excellence (CoE) at IIT (ISM) and supported by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, aims to strengthen digital literacy and academic skills among tribal youth.

Focus on Science, Technology, and Personal Growth

Director of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, Prof. Sukumar Mishra, inaugurated the programme and highlighted the transformative role of science and technology in shaping the nation’s future. He encouraged the students to make the most of the unique learning opportunities offered during the camp.

The event is being led by Prof. Rashmi Singh as Principal Investigator, with Prof. Sandeep Mondal and Prof. Niladri Das serving as Co-Principal Investigators.

Prof. Mondal, who also heads the Department of Management Studies and Industrial Engineering, stressed the importance of developing strong observation skills for academic and personal development.

Empowering Tribal Students Through Digital Training

Prof. Rashmi Singh stated that the Boot Camp is designed to nurture digital competence and stimulate academic curiosity among tribal students, empowering them to pursue future opportunities with confidence.

Prof. Niladri Das, who delivered the vote of thanks, noted that the Centre of Excellence at IIT (ISM) has already trained more than 1,500 EMRS students. Das added that the centre continues to be recognized as one of the leading CoEs under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
