CP Radhakrishnan sworn in as 15th Vice President of India

New Delhi, Sept 12: Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan, a veteran BJP leader and former governor, has been sworn in as the 15th Vice President of India.

The oath-taking ceremony took place on Friday at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, where President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office.

The occasion was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Amit Shah, JP Nadda, Nitin Gadkari, Rajnath Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, along with several other BJP leaders.

Radhakrishnan, the NDA’s nominee, was elected to the post earlier this week after securing 452 votes, defeating Opposition candidate and former Supreme Court judge B. Sudershan Reddy, who got 300 votes.

Leaders from across the country arrived in the capital to attend the ceremony, including Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, and Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar.

Before his elevation to the Vice Presidency, Radhakrishnan served as the Governor of Maharashtra and earlier as Governor of Jharkhand from February 2023 to July 2024.

Between March and July 2024, he was also entrusted with additional responsibilities as the Governor of Telangana and the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry.

Earlier in his political career, he represented Coimbatore in the Lok Sabha twice and headed the Tamil Nadu BJP unit.
