THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

Dhanbad, Oct 9: Senior Congress leader and AICC member Brajendra Prasad Singh has levelled serious allegations of corruption in the allotment of shops constructed by the Dhanbad Municipal Corporation (DMC). He has urged Deputy Commissioner Aditya Ranjan to order a thorough inquiry into the matter.

Singh, who also heads the Jharkhand State Disciplinary Committee and serves as vice-president of the District 20-Point Programme, claimed that 16 shops were built at Park Market in Hirapur, out of which eight were allotted through the “backdoor” without following proper guidelines.

He said that during a meeting on September 10, the Deputy Commissioner had announced that the shop allotment process would be carried out in consultation with the Vending Committee. However, DMC authorities allegedly ignored this directive and proceeded with arbitrary allotments.

Singh further pointed out that DMC had earlier advertised in local newspapers that the shops would be auctioned to the highest bidders. This too, he said, was not followed. He alleged that two shops were allotted to a single family, while genuine street vendors were neglected.
