Dhanbad Rail Division sets up holding areas at 3 stations for passengers

Dhanbad, Oct 24: In view of the heavy rush of passengers travelling for the Chhath festival, the Dhanbad Railway Division of the East Central Railway (ECR) zone has, for the first time, set up Holding Areas at three major stations — Dhanbad, Gomoh, and Koderma — to provide a safe waiting space for passengers and ease congestion on platforms.

Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Akhilesh Mishra said that in addition to these Holding Areas, extra ticket counters have been opened at busy stations to ensure that passengers do not face difficulties in purchasing tickets during peak hours.

“These three stations witness heavy passenger traffic during the Chhath festival. To prevent any untoward incident on crowded platforms, Holding Areas have been created for the convenience and safety of travellers,” Mishra explained.

He added that a total of 30 pairs of special trains are operating for the festival — 19 pairs passing through the division and 11 pairs originating from it. To ensure passenger safety, additional personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) have been deployed at key stations, and the number of onboard escort duties has also been increased.

Mishra further stated that additional staff have been posted at major stations to assist passengers while boarding and alighting from trains.

A passenger helpline — number 139 — has been made available for reporting any suspicious activity or seeking assistance.

“In view of the festival, ensuring passenger safety and providing special facilities are our top priorities. All stations have been instructed to strictly follow these directives to facilitate smooth travel for passengers,” the DRM said.
