Jamshedpur, Oct 30: The cyclonic storm Montha, which had earlier made landfall over coastal Andhra Pradesh, has weakened into a deep depression and is gradually moving north-northwestwards.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system is expected to result in rain in several parts of Jharkhand in the next 24 hours, followed by clear weather.

The cyclone, which has weakened into a depression, is continuing to move north-northwestwards across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and southern Chhattisgarh.

In Jharkhand, the impact of the system is expected to be felt for another 24 hours or so till October 31.

The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places in northern Jharkhand on October 30 and 31.

No alerts have been issued from November 1 onwards in the state as the weather would be primarily dry and clear.

Light to moderate rainfall has already been recorded at several locations across the state as the outer rain bands of the system advanced yesterday.

With the system continuing its weakening trajectory, rainfall activity is expected to persist in isolated pockets before gradually subsiding by the weekend.
