Ranchi, Nov 27: In the latest Jharkhand news, the West Singhbhum District Chess Association (WSDCA) has announced that it will organise the West Singhbhum Chess Championship, a chess team championship for rated chess players, on December 27. The event is being held to commemorate the 106th birth anniversary of Sitaram Rungta.

Six franchise teams confirmed

WSDCA general secretary Basant Khandelwal said that six franchise teams will participate in this WSDCA chess tournament.
Each team will feature five players, and a total of 42 rated players will be selected through a lottery draw, ensuring transparency in the selection process.

The participating West Singhbhum franchise teams are:

  • Rungta Steel TMT 
  • Mudra Hospital 
  • West Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industries 
  • Beyond Temptation 
  • DPS Group of Education 
  • Grih Laxmi Sales and Marketing 

10-round format: rapid and blitz

Khandelwal added that the Jharkhand sports news event will follow a 10-round format, with five rapid games and five blitz games.
In the rapid section, players will receive 10 minutes + 5 seconds, while the blitz section will be played with 3 minutes + 2 seconds time control.

Cash prizes and memorial trophy

The winning team and runner-up team will receive cash prizes of Rs 15,000 and Rs 11,000 respectively, along with the prestigious Sitaram Rungta Memorial Trophy, a major highlight of the West Singhbhum Chess Championship.

WSDCA president Mukund Rungta said that the best male player and best female player of the tournament will also receive Rs 11,000 each, along with individual trophies.

Franchise meeting held for preparation

To ensure smooth conduct of the WSDCA chess tournament, a preparatory meeting of the franchise teams was held.
Those present included Nitin Prakash, Dr. Vijay Mudra, Dr. Dipendra Prasad Saw, Niranjan Goel, Srikant Mudra, and Anant Lal Viswakarma, who discussed plans and responsibilities for the upcoming team chess championship.
