SUBHASH MISHRA
Dhanbad, Dec 10: The admission of Shubham Kumar Mishra, a candidate from Uttar Pradesh, was cancelled by Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH), Dhanbad, after he submitted a fraudulent Economically Weaker Section (EWS) certificate.

An FIR has also been lodged against him at Saraidhela police station, confirmed Dr. Ganesh Kumar, SNMMCH admission in-charge.
Shubham Kumar Mishra, son of Sanjay Kumar Mishra, secured admission on December 4 under the NEET EWS quota. He hails from Maharajganj district in Uttar Pradesh, where he completed his education.

However, he submitted an EWS certificate issued from the Circle Office (CO) of Giridih district, Jharkhand, during the admission process.
Verification Uncovers Forgery
Suspicion regarding the authenticity of his EWS certificate led SNMMCH authorities to contact Giridih Circle Officer Jitendra Prasad on December 5 for verification. The CO confirmed on Tuesday evening that the certificate had already been cancelled on December 5.
Sources said that while Shubham Kumar Mishra’s grandfather once lived in Giridih, his family has been settled in Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh, for two generations.
Following the cancellation, Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (JCECEB) was informed about the vacant MBBS seat at SNMMCH. The college, approved by the National Medical Commission for 100 MBBS seats, now has one seat vacant due to the fake certificate case.

Second Candidate Caught for Fake Certificate
This is not the first such case at SNMMCH during the 2025–26 session. Earlier in November, Sucharita Dutta, an MBBS candidate from Godda district, was exposed for submitting a fraudulent ST certificate.
Dr. Ganesh Kumar stated that admissions are strictly verified, and any suspicion during the screening of documents triggers thorough checks before confirming a candidate’s seat.
