Dhanbad, Dec 30: Taking serious note of the child theft incident at Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) in Dhanbad, Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari has directed all medical colleges and Sadar hospitals in the state to strengthen security measures for patients.

The minister emphasized that hospital management must prioritize not only treatment but also the safety and security of patients. “It is our shared responsibility to work with alertness, sensitivity, and accountability,” he said.

Swift Police Action Praised

Dr. Irfan Ansari lauded the Dhanbad police and SNMMCH staff for their prompt action in recovering the stolen child within 24 hours and safely returning the infant to the mother at the hospital.

The incident involved a tribal woman’s newborn, who was taken from the maternity ward on Saturday night. Police recovered the child from Bhuli Township on Sunday night and arrested four individuals in connection with the crime.

Zero Tolerance for Negligence

The Health Minister stressed that the department is responsible for the well-being of over 4 crore people in the state, and such inhuman acts tarnish the department’s image. He warned that any negligence in maintaining patient security will not be tolerated.

“Strict action will be taken against concerned officers at medical colleges and hospitals if similar incidents occur in the future,” he said.

Dr. Ansari further assured that as long as he remains minister, no injustice will be allowed against tribal families or their children. He credited the prompt recovery of the child to the efficient administration of the Hemant Soren-led government.
