Dhanbad, January 23: Gold jewellery looted during a bank robbery in Keonjhar district of Odisha was recovered from a jewellery shop in Nirsa area of Dhanbad, police said on Thursday.

A team led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Pratyush Mahapatra of Keonjhar district conducted a raid on Maa Kamakhya Jewellers, located on Bhaljoria Road under Nirsa police station, about 35 km from the Dhanbad district headquarters.
During the raid, police recovered the robbed gold jewellery from the shop and its godown.

Jewellery Shop Owner, Son Detained
The shop owner Munna Prasad and his son Kishore Raj, were taken into custody for interrogation. Police have sealed both the jewellery shop and its godown.

The raid was conducted with assistance from Nirsa SDPO Rajat Manik Bakhla, Nirsa police inspector Doman Rajak, and Maithon Power Limited (MPL) police outpost in-charge Suman Kumari.
According to police officials, unidentified criminals looted gold jewellery worth over ₹5 crore and cash amounting to ₹8 lakh from the Bank of Maharashtra, Birbal Branch, in Keonjhar district on January 19.
Police Withhold Recovery Details
After the raid, Odisha police officials declined to disclose the exact quantity or value of the recovered jewellery.
The police team also conducted searches at Munna Prasad’s residence in the Pandra area and at his farmland.
ASP Pratyush Mahapatra said that detailed information will be shared with the media after completion of the entire search operation.
