PINAKI MAJUMDAR

JAMSHEDPUR, Feb 13: In a major anti-narcotics drive under “Operation Narcos,” the Railway Protection Force (RPF) seized 34 kg of ganja and arrested four alleged traffickers in separate operations at Tatanagar and Ranchi railway stations.

16 Kg Ganja Seized at Tatanagar

At Tatanagar Railway Station, the RPF flying squad apprehended Tabrez Alam and Neyaz Ahmad with 16 kg of suspected ganja during a late-night operation on Thursday.

The action was carried out on the instructions of Senior Divisional Security Commissioner P. Shankar Kutty.

The accused, residents of the Bhitaha police station area in Bettiah, West Champaran (Bihar), had allegedly brought the consignment from Rupra Road station by the Samaleswari Express. They were reportedly planning to travel via Patna to deliver the contraband in Bettiah.

The seized narcotics are estimated to be worth around Rs 8 lakh in the illegal market. All legal formalities related to the seizure and arrest were completed as per due procedure.

18 Kg Ganja Recovered at Ranchi Station

In a separate operation in the Ranchi division, RPF personnel recovered 18 kg of ganja from a young man and woman at Ranchi Railway Station.

The accused were identified as Raju Kumar (29) and Chhoti Kumari (21), residents of the Karghar police station area in Rohtas district (Bihar). They were found sitting suspiciously on Platform No. 1 after the arrival of an express train.

Sources said a search of their belongings led to the recovery of 10 packets from Raju Kumar and eight packets from Chhoti Kumari. The total seized quantity weighed 18 kg, with an estimated market value of about Rs 9 lakh.

During interrogation, the duo reportedly revealed that the consignment and tickets were provided by a person named Bisnu from Sambalpur. The drugs were allegedly meant to be delivered at Sasaram station to two recipients.

The seized contraband was sealed, and the accused were handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP), Ranchi, for further legal action.

RPF officials said the drive against drug trafficking under Operation Narcos will continue with heightened vigilance.
