Jamshedpur, March 10: The Ranchi Meteorological Centre has forecast thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in parts of Jharkhand over the next 48 hours, advising residents to remain cautious during changing weather conditions.
According to the latest Jharkhand weather forecast, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 30–40 kmph are likely at isolated places over the north-eastern and adjoining central parts of the state on March 10.
Similar weather likely on March 11
Meteorologists said similar thunderstorm activity in Jharkhand is expected on March 11, particularly over the north-eastern, adjoining central and south-eastern districts.
The prevailing weather conditions, according to experts at the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Ranchi centre, are being influenced by an upper-air cyclonic circulation over south Bangladesh and adjoining regions. The system currently persists between 1.5 km and 3.1 km above mean sea level, contributing to atmospheric instability across eastern India.
Multiple weather systems influencing conditions
Meteorologists said a trough along longitude 90°E to the north of latitude 20°N, positioned around 3.1 km above mean sea level, has merged with the cyclonic circulation.
In addition, another trough extending from Bihar to south Odisha — passing through Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha — is located at about 0.9 km above mean sea level, further triggering unstable weather conditions across the region.
Residents advised to remain cautious
The weather department has advised residents to exercise caution during thunderstorms, especially in open fields and exposed areas, due to the risk of lightning strikes and strong winds.
Meteorological statistics revealed that several districts — including East Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Khunti, Bokaro and Dumka — experienced thunderstorms and rainfall on Monday evening.
