Jharkhand: Police remove black films from ex-gangster’s SUV in Daltonganj

Daltonganj, April 21: In a significant enforcement of traffic rules, town police in Daltonganj removed black films from the SUV of former gangster-turned civil society activist Raju Tirkey. The action was carried out in full public view, sending a clear message that no one is above the law.

First Day of New SP

The operation took place on the first day of Palamu’s new Superintendent of Police (SP), Kapil Chaudhary. A team of uniformed police officers stopped the vehicle and removed the black films in accordance with Rule 100 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.

Officials ensured that all legal procedures were followed during the checking. As per norms, police personnel were in uniform while conducting the operation.

What the Law Says on Tinted Glass

Car window tinting is regulated under Supreme Court guidelines, which prohibit the use of black films. As per the rules, front and rear windshields must allow at least 70 per cent and 50 per cent visible light transmission, respectively. Tirkey’s vehicle was found violating these provisions, leading to the removal of the black films under the SP’s direction.

Public Reaction and Impact

The move has drawn public attention, with many residents viewing it as a strong step against the perceived immunity enjoyed by influential individuals. Heavily tinted luxury SUVs have long been a common sight in the district and were often associated with intimidation on roads.

Police officials described the action as part of routine enforcement, but the public nature of the operation has made it a widely discussed issue in the town.
