Jharkhand Census 2027 drive begins: Governor, CM lead self-enumeration push

 

Ranchi, May 1: Jharkhand on Thursday rolled out the first phase of Census 2027 with Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar leading by example, completing their self-enumeration and urging citizens to participate actively in the nationwide exercise.

At his official residence in Ranchi, Chief Minister Hemant Soren completed the self-enumeration process and called upon people across the state to take part with responsibility and enthusiasm. He said the census is not merely about collecting data but serves as a foundation for planning the future and ensuring that welfare schemes reach eligible beneficiaries effectively.

Statewide Rollout and Timeline

Officials informed that the self-enumeration phase will continue from May 1 to May 15, 2026. This will be followed by the house listing and housing census from May 16 to June 14, during which enumerators will conduct door-to-door visits across Jharkhand. Administrative preparations for the exercise have already begun in all districts.

During the interaction, senior officials briefed the Chief Minister on the online self-enumeration process. He directed that personnel proficient in regional languages be deployed to ensure smooth communication during the exercise.

Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar also launched the self-enumeration process at Lok Bhawan by entering his details on the portal. He emphasised that census data plays a crucial role in policy formulation and development planning.

Importance of Census Data

The Governor noted that the census provides vital information on population, family structure, housing conditions, and socio-economic indicators, which are essential for designing and implementing development-oriented schemes. He urged citizens to cooperate with enumerators and provide accurate and complete information.

33-Point Data Framework

Officials stated that the first phase of Census 2027 will involve data collection across 33 categories covering key aspects of households and living conditions. The process includes both digital self-enumeration and physical verification through field visits.

Officials Present

Those present during the Chief Minister’s self-enumeration included Kalpana Soren, MLA, along with senior officials such as Prabhat Kumar, Director of Census Operations; Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri; Municipal Commissioner Sushant Gaurav; and other administrative personnel.

At the Governor’s programme, senior officials, including Prabhat Kumar and Manjunath Bhajantri, along with other census officials, were also present.

With the Chief Minister and Governor leading the initiative, the state administration aims to ensure wider participation, accurate data collection, and effective implementation of Census 2027.
