Jharkhand: Palamu’s Parwa block poised to lead houselisting, house census exercise

Daltonganj, June 7: Parwa block in Palamu district is on course to become the first block to achieve 100 percent completion of the ongoing houselisting and house census exercise in Jharkhand.

According to an official census progress report, Parwa had completed 92.68 percent of the exercise as of 1.22 am on June 7.

The block has a total of 82 house-listing blocks and is currently leading the district in terms of progress.

Harihurganj Nagar Panchayat Close Behind

Harihurganj Nagar Panchayat is also among the top-performing areas, having completed 87.5 percent of the houselisting and house census exercise by 1.22 am on June 7.

The urban local body has 48 house-listing blocks.

Officials noted that every hour and minute is significant in the census process, which is being conducted entirely through a digital platform without the use of traditional pen-and-paper methods.

Final Week of Census Exercise Underway

The countdown has begun for the completion of the houselisting and house census exercise in Jharkhand, which is scheduled to conclude on June 14.

Palamu district has a total of 25 census sites, comprising 21 blocks and four urban local bodies.

Palamu Registers Sharp Progress

The district has witnessed a significant improvement in census coverage over the past week.

On May 30, Palamu had completed only 3.53 percent of the houselisting and house census exercise. By the first week of June, the district had recorded an average completion rate of more than 53 percent, reflecting rapid progress in the field.

Among Palamu’s 25 census sites, only two villages—Rabda and Bakoriya—fall under the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution of India.

Administrative sources said that some protests and concerns have been reported from areas covered under the Fifth Schedule during the census exercise.
