RIMS Director resigns as CID probes fake admissions, sanitation tender bunglings

Dr Rajkumar

Ranchi, June 25: RIMS Director Dr Rajkumar has resigned from his post, with the Health Department accepting his resignation, even as the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) intensified its probe into alleged irregularities in MBBS admissions and sanitation service tenders at the state’s premier medical institute.

Two separate CID teams visited the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on Wednesday to investigate the two cases.

CID examines fake admission case

One team probed allegations that students secured admission to MBBS and BDS courses using forged documents, while another examined alleged irregularities in sanitation service tenders.

CID officials questioned the RIMS Dean, the Medical Superintendent, and other officials. They also seized copies of key documents related to both investigations.

Investigators are examining how some students were admitted without mandatory verification of their certificates by the district administration or the issuing authority. Officials said the verification process remained incomplete even after nearly a year.

The CID is also looking into how students whose documents are under scrutiny have continued their studies and nearly completed their first year.

Earlier admissions cancelled

The RIMS administration had earlier cancelled the enrolment of one MBBS student and one BDS student after district administration inquiries found their caste certificates to be fake.

Officials said the CID has taken possession of all relevant records and is continuing its investigation.

Meanwhile, Dr Rajkumar’s resignation has fuelled speculation over new leadership at RIMS. The state government is expected to appoint a new director soon.

The RIMS administration said it is extending full cooperation to the investigating agency and has provided all documents and information sought by the CID.
