Dhanbad, July 22: The Department of Management Studies and Industrial Engineering (DMSIE) at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad on Wednesday launched a three-day Executive Development Programme (EDP) on “Data Analytics for Project and Financial Management with Application Software” for around 30 middle and senior management executives of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), Bokaro Steel Plant.
Sponsored by SAIL Bokaro Steel Plant, the programme is being conducted at the Bokaro Steel Plant campus from July 22 to 24 as part of efforts to strengthen industry-academia collaboration through executive education.
Focus on data-driven project and financial management
The inaugural session was attended by Anima Kushwaha, Chief General Manager (Projects), Bokaro Steel Plant. The programme is being organised under the guidance of Priya Ranjan, Director-in-Charge, Bokaro Steel Plant.
The three-day programme comprises 12 technical sessions aimed at enhancing participants’ capabilities in data-driven decision-making, project planning, financial analysis and risk management.
The curriculum includes strategic financial management in the steel industry, project management software applications, risk analysis and simulation modelling, financial statement analysis, capital budgeting, social cost-benefit analysis, cost issues and sources of finance, data analytics for industrial projects, and software applications for project and financial management in large-scale industrial projects.
Technical sessions begin
On the opening day, participants attended sessions on Strategic Financial Management in the Steel Industry and Cost Issues and Sources of Finance in Steel Projects, delivered by Prof. J.K. Pattanayak, Emeritus Professor, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.
The day’s programme concluded with a hands-on session on the Application of Project Management Software in Industrial Projects, conducted by Prof. Sandeep Mondal, Professor and Head of the Department of Management Studies and Industrial Engineering.
Bridging analytics with industry needs
Prof. Rashmi Singh, Programme Coordinator, said the training programme has been designed to combine analytical concepts with practical industrial applications.
“Through interactive sessions and software-based demonstrations, participants will gain skills that can directly improve project planning, risk assessment and operational decision-making in the steel sector,” she said.
Co-coordinator Prof. Niladri Das said the curriculum integrates financial management with data analytics to help executives make informed and sustainable business decisions.
“We hope the programme will enable participants to adopt modern analytical tools for improving efficiency and enhancing project performance in their respective domains,” he said.
The programme is part of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad’s continuing efforts to promote executive education and strengthen collaboration with industry through specialised capacity-building initiatives.
