Jamshedpur, September 6: Sona Devi University in Ghatshila celebrated Teachers’ Day with a vibrant cultural programme at the Swami Vivekananda Auditorium, where students showcased their artistic talents while highlighting the enduring values of the guru-shishya tradition.
The programme was attended by University Chancellor Prabhakar Singh, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Braj Mohan Pat Pingua and Registrar Nit Nayana, along with faculty members, employees and a large number of students.
The celebrations began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a floral tribute to Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, eminent educationist, philosopher and former President of India. The gathering recalled his contribution to education and nation-building.
The cultural programme opened with a soulful Guru Vandana presented by students Manvi, Priyanka and Shweta. Pharmacy student Deepa spoke about the importance of teachers and their role in shaping students’ lives, while Mahi Karwa presented a song dedicated to teachers.

Dance performances by Riya Kumari and Manisha Mahanti drew applause from the audience, while Music Department student Manish Das added to the musical presentation with his singing performance.
Students also presented an account of Dr Radhakrishnan’s life, personality and contribution to education and nation-building. Other highlights included a dance performance by Ritik and Mahi Karwa and a humorous presentation by Pharmacy student Baleshwar Mandi.
A special attraction was a skit depicting the bond between teachers and students. Through the performance, students highlighted the values of trust, guidance, discipline, affection and mutual respect that define the guru-shishya relationship.
Teachers urged to guide students beyond academics
Addressing the gathering, Registrar Nit Nayana said teachers were not merely providers of knowledge but also mentors and sources of inspiration who played an important role in shaping students’ personalities. She urged students to make the most of their teachers’ experience and guidance.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Braj Mohan Pat Pingua extended Teachers’ Day greetings and said education should go beyond examinations and degrees to develop character, personality, independent thinking and leadership abilities.
He encouraged students to embrace discipline, hard work, ethics and positive thinking while adapting to changing times and emerging challenges.
Chancellor Prabhakar Singh said education should ultimately serve the larger interests of society. Referring to the university’s guiding philosophy of “Bahujan Hitay, Bahujan Sukhay”, he encouraged students to set clear goals and pursue them with determination.
He advised students to remain humble in success and resilient in failure, stressing that character-building was as important as academic achievement.
Agriculture Science student Laxmi Murmu proposed the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to the university leadership, faculty, staff and students for making the programme a success.
The Teachers’ Day celebrations provided students with a platform to showcase their creativity and talent while reinforcing the values of respect for teachers, discipline, character-building and commitment to their goals.
