Jamshedpur, Jan 18: Twin cyclonic circulations prevailing over northwest Uttar Pradesh and over Bangladesh at 1.5 km above mean sea level triggered unseasonal rain at many places across Jharkhand since the past 24 hours.

Simdega topped the rain chart with 54.4 mm of rain followed by Chakradharpur in neighbouring West Singhbhum which experienced 52.2 mm of rain.

Manoharpur in West Singhbhum received 43.6 mm of rain while Chaibasa and Goelkera in the same district received over 15 mm of rain since last night.

Bokaro recorded 11.4 mm of rain while Daltonganj recorded around 7 mm.  Jamshedpur witnessed rain in the wee hours. The local IMD observatory in Jamshedpur recorded 1.2 mm of rain today.

Reports of rain also poured from Khunti, Hazaribagh, Ramgarh, Giridih,  Jamtara and several other places.

Overcast conditions, fog

Jamshedpur, Ranchi and many other places today woke up to overcast conditions with moderate to heavy fog at some places disrupting the surface visibility.

IMD’s Ranchi Met Centre issued an alert of dense to very dense fog at isolated places over northern and central parts of the state during the next 24 hours.

The cyclonic circulation lies over northwest Uttar Pradesh and the neighbourhood between 1.5 km and 3.1 km above mean sea level.

The other cyclonic circulation over Bangladesh was extending up to 3.1 km above mean sea level.

Min. temp. to dip again

Weathermen said winds of the order of 140-160 knots at 12.6 km above mean sea level continues to prevail over the plains of North India today, whose impact is felt in Jharkhand.

The minimum temperature witnessed a rise due to the cloud cover and foggy weather.

However, weathermen said that the minimum temperature will again witness a fall by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius after the next 24 hours.
