Jamshedpur, Feb 7: In a concerted effort to foster awareness about the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and instil a sense of global citizenship, the Department of Mass Communication at Karim City College organized a capacity-building workshop today.

The event, held in collaboration with prominent social organizations Nishchay and Rubaru, aimed at educating students on the importance of mutual harmony and coordination among the people of India to achieve the global goals of happiness and peace.

Tarun Kumar from the Nishchay organization, serving as the workshop instructor, introduced over 40 Mass Communication students to all 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Focus on addressing social divides and promoting SDGs

Emphasis was placed on sensitizing participants to societal fractures stemming from differences like religion, caste and class.

The workshop featured interactive sessions where students were encouraged to ask questions and engage in discussions on various topics related to the SDGs.

Workshop promotes holistic understanding and responsible journalism

Dr Neha Tiwari, head of the Mass Communication Department, outlined the purpose of the workshop and assigned students the task of creating a one-page newspaper, which will undergo future review.

In her opening remarks, Dr Neha Tiwari emphasized the need for such workshops to cultivate a holistic understanding of global challenges among the students. The active participation and enthusiasm displayed by the students were commendable, reflecting a commitment to shaping responsible and informed individuals.
