Jamshedpur, Dec 14: Over 200 activists of Bhartiya Janatantrik Morcha (BJM) on Thursday staged a dharna in front of East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner’s office, protesting against illegal commercial activities in Tatanagar railway yard and in the adjoining Burmamines locality.

An unspecified quantity of petrol and diesel are being stolen from the tankers on the railway yard in Tatanagar station on regional basis since the past decade.  Railway Protection Force (RPF), Tatanagar which is to look after the stationary rail tank cars does nothing to stop the theft of petrol and diesel from them.

SSP gives assurance to protestors

The protestors’ resentment which reached almost a fever pitch was partially calmed down after a delegation met the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kishore Kaushal after demonstrating in the vicinity for hours together.

The Senior SP is learned to have assured the protestors to initiate steps for curbing all the illegal work in the Burmamines and Tatanagar railway yard area soon.

Saryu Roy apprises SSP

Jamshedpur East legislator, Sarayu Roy who had himself participated in the dharna while meeting the Senior SP made him aware of the criminal activities at the railway yard and exhorted him to take necessary steps to take the theft effectively.

The legislator also drew attention about several iron scrap depots which are running in an unauthorised way.

“The police have to find out who are the persons indulged in pilfering petrol and diesel from the Tatanagar railway yard and running unauthorised scrap depots in Burmamines. The police have to stop all the illegal activities immediately, ” said Sarayu Roy while talking to the newsmen.

It may be mentioned here that both the Tatanagar railway yard area and the Burmamines come under the jurisdiction of the Jamshedpur East assembly segment and the members of the BJM and the outfit’s youth wing, Bharatiya Janatantrik Yuva Morcha who remain vigilant in the assembly segment area keep the legislator abreast with any illegal activity in the area.
