Daltonganj, May 12: Four people, including three children, have died in a mysterious explosion that occurred at an unidentified place within the limits of the Manatu police station.

SP Reeshma Ramesan first of all confirmed the death of an adult man saying 3 or 4 children are also injured.

The SP said the preliminary report said some junk article was being cut with the gas cutter when the explosion occurred.

Civil surgeon Dr Anil Kumar confirmed that three children who had suffered severe multiple injuries also died.

The three deceased children were in the age group of 8 years.

The civil surgeon further said three other children are seriously injured and undergoing treatment.

Manatu police station limits are under the Chatra Lok Sabha constituency where polling is due on May 20.

An unconfirmed report said the man and the children were on a dump of junk articles where this explosion occurred.

SP Reeshma Ramesan said the matter is being investigated most seriously.
