Ranchi, Jan 18: Delhi Public School Ranchi set the stage ablaze with hues and enthusiasm as it celebrated its Annual Sports Day today.

The school premises were adorned with lively colours, creating an inviting ambience that perfectly complemented the spirited occasion.

Students from Classes VI to XII showcased their athletic prowess by participating in a myriad of sports events that added a competitive and thrilling edge to the celebration. The programme began with the rendition of a welcome song by the school choir group.

On this occasion, Principal of the school, Dr Ram Singh unfurled the school flag.

March-past, parade

A spectacular march-past by the students of all six houses — Sutlej, Chenab, Jamuna, Jhelum, Ravi and Ganga was presented in complete unison.

The NCC Cadets also displayed their bold-hued persona during the parade which was highly appreciated by him. The Head Boy of the School led the oath-taking ceremony in which all the students pledged to inculcate the sportsman spirit within them.

It was followed by the declaration of the meet open and lighting of the torch by the Principal.

Band, dance, yoga

The School Band performed with their instruments leaving the gathering electrified and awe-struck. The audience was entertained by various enchanting dances and graceful presentation of aerobics by the students and a scintillating display of yoga. The audience witnessed the energetic performances of the students.

Track and field events

The much-awaited track and field events including 100 mt, 200 mt, 800 mt and 3000 mt flat races, 4*100 mt relay along with high jumps, long jump, shotput, javelin throw, discus throw etc were a part of the sports event.

The relay race reverberated with cheers and applause from the spectators. The air was filled with cheering and encouragement for the young and budding athletes. The winners of the various achievements were awarded by the respected luminaries with medals, trophies and certificates.

Principal Dr Ram Singh delivered a motivational speech stating Sports is a hands-on learning experience to prepare students for the competition of life and leads them on their path to holistic development. Sporting activities also build teamwork, punctuality, discipline and sportsmanship in an individual. He motivated all the students to take part in sports enthusiastically.
