Jamshedpur, Dec 24: A sharp winter chill prevailed across Jharkhand on Wednesday, with cold wave conditions reported in parts of the state and dense fog affecting visibility at several locations, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ranchi.

Gumla emerged as the coldest place in the state, recording a biting minimum temperature of 3.9°C, prompting IMD to declare cold wave conditions there.

Ranchi saw a minimum of 8.5°C, slightly below normal, while Jamshedpur recorded 12.6°C.

Day temperatures remained largely below normal across most districts. The highest maximum temperature was recorded at Chaibasa (26.8°C), while Ranchi registered a daytime high of 23.2°C.

Dense fog was observed during the morning hours, reducing visibility to 400 metres at Deoghar, while Ranchi and Jamshedpur reported visibility levels of around 500 metres.

No rainfall was recorded anywhere in the state during the past 24 hours.

IMD officials said cold and dry conditions are likely to persist, especially during early morning and night hours, urging people to take precautions against the prevailing chill.
