New Delhi, July 3: In a significant relief to Dabur India Ltd., the Delhi High Court has restrained Patanjali Ayurved from airing or publishing advertisements that allegedly disparage Dabur’s Chyawanprash.
Justice Mini Pushkarna passed the interim order on Thursday, acting on a lawsuit filed by Dabur accusing Patanjali of misleading and defamatory advertising practices aimed at harming its market reputation.

The Court’s directive came after Dabur highlighted that despite the legal proceedings already underway since December 2024, Patanjali continued to broadcast allegedly misleading ads over 6,000 times in just one week. The next hearing in the matter has been scheduled for July 14.

Appearing on behalf of Dabur, Senior Advocate Sandeep Sethi argued that Patanjali’s advertisements falsely portrayed its own Chyawanprash as being prepared with more than 51 herbs, while the actual number used was 47.
He further accused Patanjali of misrepresenting Dabur’s formulation—composed of 40 herbs—as “ordinary,” thereby suggesting it was inferior. Additionally, Sethi raised concerns about the alleged presence of mercury in Patanjali’s product, particularly its potential health risks for children.

In response, Senior Advocate Jayant Mehta, representing Patanjali, denied the allegations, stating that the company’s product complies fully with existing regulatory standards and is completely safe for consumption.
While allowing the interim injunction, the Court has ordered Patanjali to withdraw the impugned advertisements until further notice.
