Jamshedpur, August 20: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall over several parts of the state between August 20 and August 23, under the influence of a depression currently lying over south interior Odisha.
Forecast Details
August 20:
Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty winds (30–40 kmph) at isolated places.

Heavy rainfall likely over North-Eastern and adjoining Central parts of the state.
August 21:
Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty winds at isolated places.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall expected at isolated locations in North-Western parts.
Heavy rainfall also likely over North-Central and adjoining Central regions.

August 22:
Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty winds at isolated places.
Heavy rainfall predicted over North-Eastern and South-Eastern parts of the state.

Synoptic Situation
The depression over south coastal Odisha moved west-northwestwards and was centered over south interior Odisha 50 Km north-northwest of Daringabadi (Odisha), 90 km east of Bhawanipatna (Odisha), and 90 Km southeast of Titlagarh (Odisha).
The system is expected to continue moving west-northwestwards across south Odisha and south Chhattisgarh and gradually weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area.
Meanwhile, the monsoon trough extends from Diu–Surat–Nandurbar–Amravati–center of depression over Odisha to east-central Bay of Bengal, up to 1.5 Km above mean sea level, sustaining favorable conditions for enhanced rainfall activity.
Precautions
The IMD has advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert for possible waterlogging, localized flooding, and disruptions due to gusty winds and lightning. Farmers and outdoor workers are urged to take necessary precautions.
