Mumbai, Nov 4: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed the immediate transfer of Rashmi Shulka who is the Director General of Police (DGP) of poll-bound Maharashtra, and instructed the Maharashtra Chief Secretary to assign her duties to the next senior-most IPS officer in the cadre.
According to sources, the Chief Secretary has also been instructed to provide a panel of three IPS officers for the appointment of the new DGP by 1 PM on November 5, 2024.

The elections for Maharashtra’s 288 assembly seats will be held in a single phase on November 20, with the results scheduled to be declared on November 23.
In a similar move in Jharkhand last month, Anurag Gupta was removed from the position of acting DGP on October 19 due to his history of election-related misconduct in previous elections. Following this, the Election Commission of India appointed Ajay Kumar Singh, the senior-most IPS officer in the cadre, as the new DGP of Jharkhand. Singh was selected from a panel of three IPS officers submitted by the state government.
