Bus accident in Uttarakhand’s Almora leaves 36 dead

Almora, Nov 4: 36 individuals lost their lives when a bus fell into a gorge near Marchula in Uttarakhand’s Almora district on Monday.

According to IG Nilesh Anand Bharne, the spokesperson for the police headquarters, more than 45 people were on board the bus during the accident.

The bus was headed from Pauri in the Garhwal region to Ramnagar in Kumaon, roughly 250 km away, when the accident occurred at around 8 AM.

Visuals from the site highlighted the extent of the accident, showing the bus twisted and crushed after rolling down the forested, rocky slope and stopping just before a stream.

Officials stated that relief and rescue operations were promptly initiated upon receiving the information, and an investigation into the accident has been ordered.

CM Dhami orders rescue, announces Rs 4 lakh aid for deceased

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conveyed his condolences regarding the fatalities resulting from the accident.

He directed the Commissioner of the Kumaon division to initiate a magisterial inquiry into the incident. Additionally, the Chief Minister ordered the suspension of the area’s assistant regional transport officer (Enforcement).

The Chief Minister also instructed that Rs 4 lakhs be provided to the families of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh to each of the injured.

“Very sad news has been received about the casualties of passengers in the unfortunate bus accident that took place in Marchula of Almora district. The district administration has been instructed to carry out relief and rescue operations swiftly,” the Uttarakhand CM posted on X.

“The local administration and SDRF teams at the accident site are working rapidly to evacuate the injured and take them to the nearest health centre for treatment. Instructions have also been given to airlift seriously injured passengers if required,” he added.
