Ranchi, March 10: The Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC), one of the CPI(Maoist) splinter organisations, and the Jharkhand Police encountered each other at Mahuda Pahari in Barkagaon block of Hazaribag district.

More than 100 rounds were fired from both sides in the encounter, but there is no information of any casualty from any side in the incident.

SP Arvind Kumar Singh

Superintendent of Police of the concerned district, Arvind Kumar Singh, confirmed the incident but did not elaborate.

“I am supervising the search operation after the encounter. I will let you know after becoming free from the exercise,” SP Singh hurriedly responded when called for confirmation around 1.45 pm.

A police official said the primary investigation suggested that Diwakar alias Pratap led the TPC squad which attacked the police.
“Maoists escaped taking advantage of the dense forest only when they realised that police personnel were in a dominating position,” the official said. “They opened fire when police reached the forest after being tipped off regarding some operation by Maoists in the forest area,” the police official said.
