Ranchi, Dec. 20: Former Jharkhand cadre IPS officer Nirmal Kaur has knocked the door of the Dhurwa police station to initiate legal action against six office-bearers of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA), including Congress state general secretary Ajay Nath Shahdeo.

Nirmala Kaur, a retired DGP rank officer, is the wife of former IPS officer late Amitabh Choudhary, who had been associated with the JSCA for a long time. He was also the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

In her FIR, she alleged that the JPSC officials stole her late husband’s assets and documents kept in his office room in the JSCA stadium in Dhurwa. She mentioned in her FIR that she came to know about the same when her son went to collect the assets and documents on September 17 last year, a month after the death of her husband.

Officer-in-charge of Dhurwa police station Bimal Nandan Sinha confirmed the fact saying, “an FIR in this regard was registered under section 406 (criminal breach of trust), 424 (Dishonest or fraudulent removal or concealment of property), 379 (theft), 504 (intentional insults to provoke someone to breach peace) and 34 (commit offence in a planned way) of IPC.

Apart from Shahdeo, those named in the FIR included JSCA secretary Debashish Chakraborty, a Patna High Court advocate Rajiv Kumar Singh, JSCA treasurer Rajeev Badhan, Country Cricket Club official Rajesh Verma, Ranjit Kumar Singh (former constable) working as JSCA contractor.

It has been informed that the family assets, including documents of Choudhary’s ancestral lands, papers related to investment of money obtained after the sale of Choudhary’s ancestral properties in Darbhanga and Madhubani, were stolen from his office room at the JSCA Stadium Dhurwa, which was his workplace till death. It has been informed that a huge amount of money, wife’s streedhan, bank bond certificate, educational certificate, iPhone Pro given by JPSC employees in the farewell ceremony were disappeared by JSCA officials.

Shahdeo and others named in the FIR could not be contacted for their comments on the matter.

A veteran cricket administrator and an ex-IPS, Choudhary served as the head of JSCA and was also the acting secretary of the BCCI until 2019.

A couple of years ago, he was appointed as the chairman of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission. He was also the main force behind the iconic JSCA Stadium in Ranchi – which eventually emerged as a Test venue.

During his tenure as the JSCA chief, Choudhary played a key role in developing infrastructure for Jharkhand cricket. In 2019, Choudhary could not contest the JSCA elections due to the cooling-off period clause enforced by the Supreme Court in the wake of the Lodha committee recommendations.

Before taking over as an administrator, Choudhary also served as Indian cricket team’s manager on several tours – the most important being the 2005-06 tour of Zimbabwe that marked the beginning of the Sourav Ganguly-Greg Chappell fallout.
