Jamshedpur, July 8: Cyber fraudsters have allegedly created a fake social media profile using the name and photograph of a Jamshedpur-based doctor in an attempt to dupe people by seeking money online.
The victim is Dr A.N. Jha, a physician at MGM Hospital. According to the complaint, fraudsters used his identity to create a fake social media profile and allegedly sent messages to his friends, acquaintances and patients, requesting money on various pretexts.
After learning about the fake account, Dr Jha issued a public alert through social media and other communication channels, clarifying that the profile was fraudulent.
He urged people not to trust any messages or financial requests sent from the fake account and advised them to verify such requests over the phone or through another reliable means before transferring money.

Investigators are tracking the digital trail, including IP addresses, mobile numbers and bank accounts linked to the fake profile, to identify those behind the fraud.
Preliminary findings suggest cybercriminals are exploiting the identities of trusted individuals on social media to gain credibility and cheat unsuspecting users.
Public Advised to Stay Vigilant
Cyber police have appealed to the public to remain alert to suspicious social media profiles. They have advised people to verify any request for money, even if it appears to come from someone they know, and to report fake accounts to the respective social media platform as well as the Cyber Police or the national cyber helpline.
